Job Description Job Description Location: Commerce Township, Michigan Title: Lead Carpenter Compensation & Benefits: Hourly Pay: $30.00 – $38.00 per hour Benefits: Paid time off Paid holidays 401(k) Health insurance Company culture focused on craftsmanship, growth, and homeowner experience Position Summary: The Lead Carpenter is the on-site leader responsible for project workflow, crew performance, quality, safety, and the overall homeowner experience. This role ensures every project is completed the Basements Plus Way—through disciplined planning, clear communication, hands-on coaching, and expert craftsmanship. The Lead Carpenter sets the tone for workmanship, professionalism, and a zero-punch-list standard from start to finish. Essential Job Functions: Leadership & Team Development Lead daily jobsite huddles with clear daily/weekly goals. Train, coach, and mentor Journeyman and Apprentice Carpenters to improve skill, efficiency, and team performance. Project Management Ensure work meets all building codes and Basements Plus standards. Maintain ownership of jobsite safety, organization, cleanliness, and quality. Communicate proactively with the Project Manager to keep timelines aligned. Update project management software daily with photos, notes, and any issues. Interact with homeowners with a solution-focused, professional approach. Uphold a zero-punch-list mentality. Verify readiness for homeowner orientation and final walkthrough. Technical Carpentry Skills Deliver high-end finishes with tight miters, clean reveals, precise joinery, and exceptional craftsmanship. Execute advanced trim details (coffered ceilings, crown, beams, wall paneling). Fabricate custom features (built-ins, cabinetry, mantles, hidden doors). Build and install stair and railing systems. Install cabinets, modify cabinetry, and complete complex molding layouts. Install advanced door systems (pocket, French, specialty hardware). Complete framing modifications per design and code requirements. Position Requirements: 5 years of residential finish carpentry experience. Proficiency in complex, high-end carpentry work. Strong ability to read plans, interpret scope, and execute work independently. Leadership experience supervising and mentoring field teams. Clear and professional communication with team members and homeowners. High attention to detail with strong problem-solving abilities. Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, insurance, and a cell phone. Must supply own carpentry tools. Ability to pass a background check and physical. Ability to lift and move up to 75 lbs.
