Committed to Advancing Excellence and Equity in Education, the Graduate School of Education (GSE) at Rutgers University New Brunswick seeks an outstanding scholar at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor in Language Education with a background in Applied Linguistics to join the program in Language Education within the Department of Learning and Teaching and the GSE s equity, social justice and urban teacher education program. Faculty who teach in this program prepare future ESL, world language, and bilingual education teachers grounded in equity, diversity, urban education, and social justice frameworks. We seek tenured or tenure-track faculty colleagues whose research focus is in applied linguistics (specifically, socio-linguistics, pragmatics, or discourse analysis), language teacher education, and advancing issues of diversity, access, and social justice in education and society. The scholar filling this position will conduct a research and publication agenda that advances Rutgers Graduate School of Education s pursuit of Advancing Excellence and Equity in Education. The position requires expertise in applied linguistics in the areas of socio-linguistics, pragmatics, or discourse analysis. Candidates must demonstrate scholarly productivity by publishing in peer-reviewed journals, securing external research support, and presenting at national and international scholarly conferences. The scholar will contribute to the growth of teacher education and doctoral programs; participate in program development and innovation; and develop and teach courses in language education. The scholar filling this position will teach courses in applied linguistics and ESL, world language, and bilingual methods courses grounded in equity, diversity, urban education, and social justice frameworks. Additionally, the scholar filling this position will advise students including doctoral students; participate actively in local, state, and national professional organizations; and contribute to the service missions of the Graduate School of Education and the university. Applicants are required to have earned a doctoral degree from an accredited major research university with a specialization in applied linguistics. In screening applicants, we will be looking for evidence of demonstrated commitment to addressing diversity, equity, and social justice issues in preK- 12 education; scholarly accomplishments aligned with securing competitive external research funding; commitment to a strong, productive, and externally funded research program; and evidence of preK-12 teaching experience and effective teaching at the university level. Candidates seeking appointment at the rank of Associate Professor must have a demonstrated record of scholarly excellence and accomplishments that merits appointment at this rank with tenure.
