Job Description: The Director of Global Product Development and Supply (GPS) Business Development and In-Licensed group is responsible for developing and managing the technical relationship between GPS and BMS' alliance partners in joint development activities to create high value solutions and assets. This includes drug substance, analytical, and formulation development technical solutions, development strategies, as well as clinical supplies for both small molecule and biologics collaboration. These partnerships are formed at different stages of development, and therefore the role is critical in delivering the appropriate scientific and technical collaboration to facilitate an eventual transition and integration into a development team. In managing this strategic partnership, the position will interface with business development groups, Finance, development leaders, and others as appropriate. Additional responsibility includes serving as a point of contact for GPS with the Corporate Business Development Group in the review of licensing opportunities as well as merger, acquisition, alliance management activities in support of BMS' overall BD Strategy. Responsibilities include: Alliance Management
  • Effectively collaborate with Alliance partners to deliver the best outcome and value from development assets
  • Perform as a scientific single point of contact for related CMC activities on behalf of GPS. Engage Alliance partners for technical risk assessment and represent GPS on joint development teams for assigned compounds
  • Proactively request functional subject matter experts (SMEs) involvement when needed to resolve development challenges. Provides sound scientific and technical leadership and advocacy to support the development of robust manufacturing processes and products, integrating current regulatory and industry standards
  • Negotiate and influence development strategies and assure their execution are staged with the appropriate clinical and investment milestones in conjunction with alliance and internal partners
  • Develop compound-specific strategies as needed to meet BMS business development requirements incorporating all elements across the drug substance, drug product, analytical, quality, clinical supplies and regulatory areas
  • Responsible for ensuring adequate transition plans to transfer knowledge to BMS when appropriate
  • Manage multiple Alliance assets, tracks and reports development progress. Business Development
    • Coordinate and drive evaluation and diligence deliverables across GPS functions
    • Support deal negotiations and contracting for GPS related terms
    • Lead generation of Cost of Goods (COGs) estimates with GPS Finance Dept., to enable financial evaluation of assets and to support development of financial flows delivering the most benefit to BMS
    • Summarize and present due diligence findings and contract positions to GPS Leadership team including contingency plans to mitigate identified risks and secure approvals
    • Facilitate the integration of assets post transaction into both R&D and GPS Minimum Qualifications:
      • BS, MS in chemistry, biochemical or chemical engineering or related sciences with PH.D. preferred with minimum of 15 years in the biopharmaceutical industry
      • Strong knowledge of BDS (Biologics Drug Substance), API (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient) or DP (Drug Product) development/manufacturing
      • Solid understanding of pharmaceutical development and its integration and partnership with key functional areas such as Quality, Regulatory, Manufacturing, Clinical, and others
      • Based on type of work, ability to act with highest level of integrity and full appreciation of confidentiality requirements is a must
      • Extensive experience of managing development portfolio
      • Strong negotiation and project management skills
      • Well-rounded and developed written and oral communication skills
      • Ability to communicate effectively in presentations, face to face meetings and written form to all levels within an organization
      • Demonstrated ability for critical thinking and innovation
      • Ability to deal effectively across the BMS enterprise, across multiple geographies and cultures in the interest of effective business operations
      • Ability to manage ambiguity, and make sound scientific and business decisions with limited information (when necessary)
      • Highly motivated, results focused and acting with a high sense of urgency
      • Proven leadership ability to collaborate, align, motivate, and take ownership
