Job Description:

The R&D Manager, Product Development will have the following responsibilities:
Under the Head of R&D, this position leads strategic technical projects and activities for new and existing products from concept to commercialization, and optimization. You will look at innovative ways to optimize such products in the areas of Powders, Bars, and Ready-to-Drink products
This position will be the managing arm of day-to-day responsibilities overseeing the team and projects where Powder, Bars and Ready-to-Drink are the primary delivery form
Lead by influence - Leadership of projects giving direction to the R&D production teams at co-manufacturing facilities to ensure gold-standards of products are being attained

Essential Functions And Responsibilities
Leading strategy and development for new and improved products, from concept to commercialization
Ownership of multiple product development areas, such as innovation, optimization, and brand maintenance
Managing technical direction of projects - identifying key deliverables and next steps and communicating to team
Independently plan, manage and complete technical programs necessary to design, develop and optimize new and improved formulations / products / delivery systems for products that meet customer needs and are robust and reproducible
Manages complex business relationships with ingredient, form or process technology partner companies, contract developers and manufacturers, consultants, vendors, cross-functional departments, and outside university experts to ensure customer needs and projects are executed in an efficient and effective manner
Manages technical staff as needed at internal and external research, development and manufacturing sites
Develops and reviews intellectual property strategy and conducts patent searches, literature reviews and is current with cross industry technology insights. Understands application and benefits / costs to our product portfolio. Ensures competitive advantage through implementation of proprietary and differentiated technical solutions
Coordinates and influences Brand Marketing, Insights & Analytics, Supply Chain, R&D and QA as key member and activity owner on Project, Brand and Platform teams

Technical Qualifications
4-7 years' ideal of experience in the Food and Beverage and/or dietary supplement industry with continually increasing scope of responsibilities
Training or certifications in Project Management, Design of Experiments or equivalent is preferred
Bachelor of Science, Masters, or PhD will be reviewed for consideration
Experience and proven results in technical projects
Demonstrated proficiency in a product development stage gate process
Excellent oral and written communication skills with proven ability to manage up and work productively with cross-functional peers in a collaborative team environment
Excellent problem-solving skills
Demonstrated expertise in partnering with external suppliers and contract developers and manufacturers
Works seamlessly in both a business and R&D environment with proven ability to deliver programs on time, on quality and within budget
Understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices and working knowledge of form-specific regulatory requirements (DSHEA, FDA) and certifications (non-GMO, Kosher, Halal, DSVP, etc.)
