Job Description Job Description Infectious Disease - Physician - Administration Overview: The Division Director for Infectious Diseases at our organization will spearhead educational initiatives, research endeavors, and clinical services within the Infectious Diseases division. This role includes overseeing faculty, fellows, and departmental finances. The successful candidate will champion innovative training, broaden clinical research efforts, including trials, and cultivate an inclusive departmental environment. We seek a board-certified infectious disease physician with robust administrative, research, and financial management skills, dedicated to promoting equity and academic excellence. Our organization is in search of a collaborative and visionary physician leader to take on the role of Division Director (also known as Division Chief) of Infectious Diseases at our medical college, situated on a 13-acre campus in Center City Philadelphia. Reporting directly to the Chair of the Department of Medicine, the Chief of Infectious Diseases will enhance and expand educational, research, and clinical care excellence at our hospitals. The Chief will supervise the academic ID group, which consists of 14 full-time clinical faculty members and 4 fellows, while managing ID care across our hospitals, including the main hospital, the Neuroscience Hospital, and the Methodist Hospital, and providing expertise throughout our health system. Role of the Division Chief The Chief will direct the research, clinical care, and educational programs of the Division of Infectious Diseases within the Department of Medicine, with specific responsibilities outlined below. Job Description Education & Training Encourage discovery and explore innovative methods to enhance trainee learning. Assist the Fellowship Program Director in the training of subspecialty fellows. Oversee faculty teaching assignments and the Division’s involvement in the undergraduate medical education program. Ensure the curriculum is appropriate and assess the need for new courses and programs, ensuring all educational activities are centered around students, residents, and fellows. Ensure that accreditation activities, program reviews, and other educational evaluations are conducted properly, maintaining compliance with LCME and ACGME standards. Research Expand the Division’s clinical research initiatives. Create opportunities for impactful clinical research and foster collaborations between clinicians and scientists, as well as with other departments and research centers. Broaden clinical trial opportunities for patients across our expanding clinical network. Support the research development of trainees and early-career faculty through personalized mentorship. Maintain resources to facilitate extramural grant activities and secure new funding. Promote the Division’s research activities, including upcoming presentations, new publications, and recent advancements in diagnostics and therapeutics. Oversee the Division’s research portfolio, ensuring quality and tracking faculty research achievements. People Foster an engaged, connected, and supportive departmental culture. Communicate departmental direction and generate support during transitions. Provide regular feedback to faculty and staff, including recognition and coaching. Support the well-being and professional development of faculty and staff, including leadership development opportunities. Ensure resources are available to enhance faculty productivity in educational and research activities. Advance efforts to create an inclusive environment, ensuring fair practices in hiring, promotions, and compensation. Implement and manage faculty recruitment strategies to attract top talent, ensuring compliance with organizational policies and timely hiring. Conduct annual performance evaluations, establishing and communicating expectations and goals. Financial Operations Oversee revenue-generating activities and make informed financial decisions aligned with the Division’s strategic goals to maintain fiscal sustainability. Review Division budgets and actively engage in the annual budgeting process. Ensure expenditures for resources and equipment are within budget and appropriately allocated, maintaining sound management practices. Qualifications A clinically active physician leader with a national reputation in Infectious Diseases, demonstrated success in securing external funding for impactful research, and a strong record of scholarly contributions that qualifies for appointment at the rank of associate or full professor. An administrative leader with a progressive academic career, ideally culminating in roles such as Division Chief or senior faculty, with a proven ability to advance divisional goals and support faculty and trainee development. Experience in fiscal management, overseeing complex budgets, and efficiently allocating resources to support strategic priorities. A commitment to equitable practices and fostering inclusive communities within the Department’s mission, including faculty recruitment and career advancement. An MD, DO, or MD/PhD degree, current board certification in Infectious Diseases, and eligibility to practice in Pennsylvania.
