Job Description:
Job Description The certified nurse midwife (CNM) functions
independently but in collaboration with the attending physician and
interdisciplinary healthcare team to provide midwifery services to
patients. The CNM is responsible for the assessment, plan,
implementation and evaluation of nurse midwifery care delivered to
the antepartum, intrapartum and post-partum and newborn patients as
well as routine well woman health care. You have: Graduated from a
nurse-midwifery education program accredited by the Accreditation
Commission for Midwifery Education (ACME) (formerly known as the
American College of Nurse-Midwives Division of Accreditation)
Master's or doctoral degree Current active certification by the
American Midwifery Certification Board or be actively seeking
initial certification and obtain the same on the first
certification for which you are eligible Current active licensure
to practice as a Certified Nurse Midwife in the nurse midwife
category as per the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners
STABLE Program Certification preferred Neonatal Resuscitation
Provider (NRP) certified Current BLS and ACLS certification You
will: Manage the care of and give direct client services to
families in all areas of maternity, newborn and family planning
care, according to the standards of the American College of
Nurse-Midwives, The American Association of Birth Centers and the
policies, procedures and clinical practice guidelines of the
hospital nurse-midwifery clinical practice guidelines Provide
direct clinical services and management of mothers and babies as
defined in the standing orders, policies, procedures and protocols
for certified nurse midwife Obtain patient health histories and
complete physical examinations, document findings noting pertinent
normal and abnormal findings and collaborate with attending
physician as needed Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic and
laboratory tests Explain the necessity, preparation, nature and
anticipated effects of procedures to patient, family and staff
Provide patient and family education related to prenatal,
intrapartum, postpartum, newborn care Provide staff and student
education Perform and participate in quality/performance
improvement activities Monitor quality of patient records and
ensures inclusion of all appropriate findings, recommendations,
