Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Staff Nurse-Pediatric Neurology in Pediatrics Child Neurology and Neurodevelopmental Disabilities at Child Health Institute of New Jersey.

In accordance with professional nursing standards, skillfully administers total patient care based on the individualized needs of assigned patients and families. In depth knowledge of child development through adulthood required (birth-21 years). Pediatric experience required. Recent experience preferred, within the past three years, in the direct care of pediatric patients with neurological diseases, including but not limited to epilepsy, migraines, and head injury. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong clinical nursing background and excellent interpersonal skills with experience working both collaboratively and independently within scope of practice as part of the pediatric subspecialty team. Highly organized, and able to work simultaneously on multiple projects with constantly shifting priorities, and the ability to multitask in a constantly changing environment.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

• 
  
• Provides ongoing overall and targeted problem-focused assessments both in person and by telephone of the neurological and developmental status of pediatric patients within scope of practice. These are including but not limited to: Gestational and perinatal history, past medical and developmental history, and chief complaint.
  
• During any patient encounter, recognizes when immediate intervention is needed, referring caregiver to most appropriate resource(s), providing in-person, or telephone guidance as appropriate.
  
• Notifies supervisor and/or appropriate physicians/support personnel of changes in a patient's condition/needs in a timely manner.
  
• Plans, implements, and evaluates the patient's care utilizing short term and long-term outcomes.
  
• Assists the patients and families in managing the acute and long-term aspects of the patient's neurological and neuro developmental condition.
  
• Provides appropriate care based on the age and developmental level of the patient and/or caregiver within scope of practice.
  
• Educates patients, caregivers, and other entities regarding neurological/ neuro developmental conditions, procedures, therapies,
  medications, results, and/or treatments.
  
• Coordinates inpatient and community-based care including home care services, testing, procedures, infusions, etc.
  
• Documents all care and patient encounters in the -EMR, both in-person and telephone encounters.
  
• Demonstrates the ability to review records and determine missing elements to ensure completeness of the medical record.
  
• Demonstrates self-direction, with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, staying organized, keeping accurate records, and meeting deadlines.
  
• Assists in the preparation of forms and letters such as: seizure action plans, bus protocols, -DYFS -inquiries, -IEP -letters, accommodation letters for colleges, schools, employment, military; surgical/dental clearance, -FMLA, etc.
  
• Performs ongoing case management and monitoring of patients on specific therapies.
  
• Reviews and fulfills requests for prescription refills and ensures compliance with state and federal statutes for scheduled drugs.
