Job Description:


The RN will coordinate medical services for individuals with developmental disabilities.

Conduct health assessment
Prepare and administer medication / treatment
Identify abnormal health findings
Provide emergency nursing management for injuries/illnesses
Promote and assist in the control of communicable diseases
Provide health education and anticipatory guidance


Monday through Friday, 9am-3pm

Demonstrated expertise in school health nursing practice and emergency procedures Knowledge of child growth and development, community and family dynamics, current health issues, and wellness education

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Knowledge of (including but not limited to): principles and practices and current trends of professional nursing, principles, and practices of the special needs field of school nursing and current practices for common childhood conditions and chronic conditions especially asthma, allergies, diabetes & seizure disorders. 2. Ability to: assess the physical, mental, and environmental health of students: appraise health needs as they relate to educational environment and cultural background in accordance with state and local mandates. Perform health care required for student need based on nursing assessment. 3. Works in cooperation with the school physician, the school nurse, administration, staff, parents/guardians, and community health professionals to ensure a healthy school climate and to minimize absence due to illness. 4. Conducts health services and screening programs as required by law. 5. Schedules and supervises health surveys of students and staff. 6. Provides emergency care in case of sudden illness and administers first-aid in case of injury to students or staff according to established policies and procedures. Is responsible for the availability and maintenance of required medical supplies and equipment. 7. Maintains up-to-date health records on all students, maintains separate records of immunizations for the purpose of immunization record auditor and ensures their confidentiality. 8. Helps prevent and control communicable disease through staff education, assessment, exclusion and re-admission of students in keeping with state and local health regulations and school policies. 9. Confers with and advises parents, and staff on matters pertaining to the health and safety of students. 10. Promotes healthy/safe school environment by assisting the administration and staff to maintain safe and sanitary conditions throughout the school. Reports problems promptly to administration. 11. Administers prescribed medication to students in accordance with law and board policy. Provides training and supervision of the emergency administration of epinephrine for designated school staff. 12. Maintains professional competence through scheduled health webinars and participation in other professional development activities. Received training in the treatment of asthma and maintains a valid current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certificate as required by law and administrative code. 13. Performs such other appropriate nursing duties as required under law or as may be assigned by the school nurse and/or administration (i.e. when needed will assist clients enrolled in the DAP).
