Posting Summary Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Assistant General Counsel for the Office of General Counsel (OGC).The Office of the Senior Vice President and General Counsel (OGC) represents the University in all legal proceedings and provides legal advice to the President, Board of Governors, and administration on a broad array of legal issues. OGC manages and supervises all legal affairs for the University; serves as the general legal officer of the Board of Governors and the University; and serves as legal adviser to the Board of Governors, the President, and to other administrative officers of the University. This position reports to the Senior Vice President and General Counsel and Associate Vice President and Deputy General Counsels. This attorney works in a variety of areas, with a focus on defending the University and its employees in litigation and provides advice, counsel, and representation in labor and employment matters. Among the key duties of this position are the following:--- Defends the University on a wide variety of litigation matters (a substantial portion of which involves employment claims), generally in coordination with outside counsel.--- Advises senior administrators on matters in anticipation of litigation and prepares responses to attorney demand letters; collaborates with University Risk Management on insurance, indemnification and related issues.--- Prepares and litigates arbitration of contractual and disciplinary grievances arising under faculty and staff collective negotiations agreements and advises on issues arising during collective negotiations.--- Conducts research, renders advice, and represents the University in employment-related administrative proceedings before such agencies as the EEOC and New Jersey Division on Civil Rights.--- Provides advice and counsel on a wide variety of legal issues that affect a public institution of higher education, including constitutional issues, issues arising under Title IX, FERPA, the Open Public Records Act, the Open Public Meetings Act, and other student-related issues (such as discipline and disability accommodations).--- Provides advice and guidance pertaining to drafting and reviewing University-wide policies and procedures.--- Assists with and participates in training and preventative law presentations for University administrators, managers and staff; participates in other legal projects as requested by the General Counsel or other supervising attorneys.
