Addiction Technician

Job Description:

The Addiction Technician is responsible for technical skills encompassing patient care and related tasks under the direction of the treatment providers. The Addiction Technician works closely with patients and office staff to ensure proper documentation, clinic operations, and provider support are maintained.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Delivering direct patient care to patients as assigned, using established procedures
  • Documenting history; recording and reporting pertinent observations and patient reactions to staff, as appropriate; documenting lab procedures and ensuring follow up on results
  • Initiate and monitor all clinic prior authorizations for prescription and treatments
  • Using screening procedures, including medical history review, and observing and documenting patient vital signs as required
  • Administer Urine test
  • Record Results in EMR
  • Review & record COWS, CIWA or other appropriate tests
  • Obtain H&P & additional history
  • Initiate note for provider
  • Update Rx in MD Toolbox
  • Confirm that all Rx's have been sent in MD Toolbox or E-Prescribe System
  • Administering Urine Drug Screens and interpreting the information located on the screen
  • Uploading UDS findings into patients' chart
  • Ordering lab screenings and confirmations in lab portal software
  • Ensuring requisition reports are placed in biohazard bags for the correct patient
  • Preparing shipping labels and ordering FedEx and UPS pickups and deliveries
  • Dropping all UDS at local FedEx drop off locations
  • Reserving and ensuring clinical offices are organized and following 5S standards
  • Assisting with training other technicians or other workers
  • Assisting with or instituting emergency measures for sudden adverse developments during treatment
  • Performing other duties as assigned

    • Certified Peer Recovery Specialist highly desired
    • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education required
    • Accredited 2-4 years college degree or certificate highly desirable
    • Completion of a training program and certificate highly desirable
    • Knowledge of healthcare regulations and preventative measures (HIPAA confidentiality, infection spread, etc.)
    • Exemplary customer service experience including client relationships and job knowledge
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively; ability to critically think
    • Knowledge of quality control
    • Ability to exercise manual dexterity, control precision and arm-hand steadiness accurately
    • Ability to be empathetic with patients; ability to maintain confidentiality
